These plantation shutters fitted in Ascot really show off how stylish and classy they can look.

Plantation Shutters Ascot
Because they operate in 2 ways
you have a lot of control over light and privacy. All the wooden shutter panels fold back to leave the window completely open. As well as this, each section tilts so that you can control the light coming into the room. The tilt movement also gives you complete control over privacy. Particularly important when your window faces a front aspect that is overlooked.

Wooden Plantation shutters are a long term window dressing. They will dress your windows for 20 – 30 years and still look great. They are easily maintained and looked after. For cleaning you can simply dust and polish them. If they have become grubby you can wet clean them with a mild household cleaning solution. Be careful not to rub too hard as this can remove the top finish of the shutter slat panels.
The main range of Wood plantation shutters supplied by Howards Blinds of Berkshire are made from american Basswood. While there are other budget options in our range but this is the top quality shutter range and is always our first recommendation. We can advise on how the shutters can be fitted to your windows and help you to choose the best option for your window.
Shaped Internal Shutters in Stratford Upon Avon

We completed one of our more unusual shutters installations last week. The Picture shows the arched doorway. This is one house of a new developement of mews houses in Stratford upon Avon. The two middle sections open inwards so we advised the customer that shutters fitted directly to each door unit would be the best solution.
The doors still operate freely and the shutter units also open for extra light when needed.
To make this type of shutter we made full size templates of each door unit and these were sent to the manufacturer for make up. We arrange for a cut out for the door handle. The shutters are made in painted basswood with 64mm slats in Marshmallow white.
Our customer Ms Broughton was “absolutely delighted with the professionalism shown from measuring to fitting”
Plantation Shutters for Large Windows

To fit plantation shutters to large windows, we can install a track system to the top of the shutters. This track system takes all the weight of the shutters. The shutters sections themselves run smoothly along the track to stack at the ends of the track.
This type of plantation shutter is ideal for large windows and french doors. You still have the option of having the shutters pulled back off the window or across the window.
Our experienced team of fitters ensure that the whole unit is fitted square (even if your window isn’t square). We then hang the shutters onto the track and align them precisely. All the panels are adjustable onsite to allow for any inconsistencies in your window opening. When the track system and shutters are fully fitted they will run perfectly and all the sections will line up.
We recommend using Basswood shutters for the track systems as it is hard wearing and gives the greatest choice of colours and special mouldings to finish the job. There is no real limit to the size of track systems. At the ideal home exhibition this year we had a track system plantation shutter on display that was about 5 metres wide. It had 12 sections – some of which had automated slats that worked with a remote control handset.
The cost of track systems is a little more per square metre than for other types of shutters. This is to cover the additional components cost of the track itself and the longer fitting time needed to install then.
What are Internal Shutters made of?

There are 5 materials to choose from for your internal shutters, each one offering its own benefits. Depending on your budget and specifications Howards Blinds of Bracknell can help you choose the one best suited to your needs.
The five wood options are as follows
- BassWood
- CedarWood
- PearlWood
- PermaWood
- CraftWood
Your choice will depend on your location and the style of shutters you need.
If you are looking for a simple budget shutter system then the craftwood range offers unbeatable value in a choice of 3 white colours. At the other end of the scale there is the superb Basswood range offering the full range of 51 woodstain colours and whites.
The latest addition to the range is the Ceder Wood range of internal shutters. The quality of the wood grain is superb and again there is a good range of wood stain colours.
One other option is for painted wood shutters. You can have any colour match you like. Simply quote the dulux colour number and we will match it. If you have a piece of tile or fabric we can also colour match your shutters to them.
We can advise you on what will suit your window when we come round to measure the windows.
Shutters provide privacy, style and light control. Unlike curtains they can be tailored to fit almost any shape of window perfectly. They are versatile and can be manufactured to the full window height or mounted ‘tier on tier’ to create frames within frames. Or, with particularly tall windows, or windows surmounted with stained glass panes, the classic café style may be chosen to leave the uppermost glazing exposed, maximising light whilst providing privacy. To ensure that Howards Blinds products keep looking good and give a lifetime’s satisfaction, we apply no less than six coats of stain or paint to the shutters, before your order is carefully despatched for installation in your home.
